Easy Grammar Overview from Rainbow Resource on Vimeo.
Publisher Description:
Mastery of basic grammar facts. Independent student work. Lots of review and practice. That's what Easy Grammar provides. It's convenient and takes no teacher prep time. The general idea is to introduce grammar gently to young students (Easy Grammar Daily Guided Teaching, grades 1-2). The middle school years (grades 3-7) focus on systematic instruction and provide lots of practice to master the basics as well as daily review. The secondary years (Easy Grammar Ultimate, grades 8-12) continue daily review, coupled with some advanced instruction. The courses vary in structure at different grade levels. Grades 3-6 are similar in structure but grade-level appropriate. Easy Grammar Plus is a course that can be used either in 7th grade or as a complete grammar review for older students. Daily Grams, available for grades 3-7, supplements and complements the EG series by providing daily review.
Each grade level Teacher Edition provides bite-size lessons, student practice and assessment pages, and those same pages with answers filled in. Both the practice pages and the tests are reproducible for families. Student Workbooks include lesson and practice pages. Test Books (available for Grades 3 and up) provide pre and post tests as well as sectional tests. Grade level Sets include the Teacher Edition, Student Book and Test Book (if available for that level).
These materials offer a complete and comprehensive coverage of all three elements - grammar (i.e. parts of speech, complete sentences), usage (i.e. homophones, figures of speech, proper word choice to convey meaning), and mechanics (i.e. punctuation, capitalization).

BEST ANSWER: The student workbook does not include answers, but the Teacher Guide includes the student workbook pages as well as the answers and you are allowed to reproduce the pages from the Teacher Guide for your homeschooled student. Hope this helps!

No, only the teacher book has answers. Actually, the teacher book also has "blank" student pages, the same ones as in the Student Workbook, so you technically don't need the Student Workbook at all. However, the Student Workbook is much more convenient to have since the teacher book has the student pages and answer pages right next to each other!

The student workbook doesn't have answers. You need the big master book that goes along with it. If you buy just the big master book, it has the workbook pages on one side and answers on the other. IF you want to copy it every day. I opted to buy both to save copying every day.

No. The teacher edition has a good layout with blank student pages as well as answer keys. My first year with this system, I just made copies from the teacher edition. That said, having the student workbook made life easier--less copies, less filing.

Does this grammar book teach diagramming sentences?
BEST ANSWER: No, Eatsy Grammar does not teach diagramming sentences, HOWEVER, this curriculum series does an AWESOME job of teaching mechanics and grammar. I only wish I had found out about it sooner! I don't know anyone who would not LOVE using the Easy Grammar series for their Language Arts curriculum. It's well done, very affordable and highly effective....I give it 2 thumbs up!!!

I don't think it does. It teaches the parts of speech, but it doesn't have students diagram them the way I remember doing.

Does the easy grammar + workbook include the teaching sections or do I need to buy the teachers plus as well?
BEST ANSWER: Easy Grammar Plus workbook does not have the answers or teaching prompts. It has a few instructional pages and lists scattered through the lessons for the student to reference. I never used the teacher's manual because I am strong in grammar skills and it was just as easy to read through the student's answers on my own. However, if you need or would prefer to have the answer key and/or prepared lesson notes, you will need a teacher manual.

The student workbook does not include the Teaching sections. You would have to purchase the Teacher's Edition. The Teacher's Edition includes the student sections that you could copy instead of having to purchase the workbook, but it might cost you more in ink and paper than to just buy the student workbook.

How long does this curriculum require on a daily basis?
BEST ANSWER: The curriculum is broken into grammar topics, so you decide how many pages to complete each day, and each day may be different. On average, my kids spend 10-15 minutes a day in a typical 180-day year doing grammar 4 days a week.

If you are just using the Easy Grammar Student Workbook, it takes about 5-15 minutes a day, depending on the lesson. If you add Daily Grams, that takes less than 5 more minutes as it's only one page per day. The lessons in Easy Grammar aren't distinctly marked, so it takes some getting used to at first, but it is well worth the effort. For example, the pages are clearly marked VERBS in the upper corners - you just need to pay attention to the subcategory underneath that (Verb Tenses) and decide how many pages for that lesson. it is usually 2-5 pages per subject.

It depends on the skill level of your student, but we never spent anymore than 1/2 hour or less a day. The writer has presented the material in such a way that the concepts are fairly easy to understand and process. The most intensive work we did in Easy Grammar was memorizing the irregular verbs and verbs such as lay/lie, raise/rise, sit/set. Hope this helps!

That depends on you. I tried to keep it to a minimum but my kids wanted more. So I would say 15-30 minutes depending on what you are covering. It's a great program.

Great grammar program
I have used Easy Grammar with my 5 kids and it is great! Each grammar concept is built upon what they have already learned and there is ample practice and review. Is grammar boring? Yes, to most folks it is, but to write well, you must have good grammar skills. Book reports, English papers, Science reports, college work, thesis, #1 best seller - whatever is your students future writing assignment, Easy Grammar will help!

Tried this, but switched to something else because we found this boring. I like the idea of a workbook, and found that we like BJU English much better (and that is the only BJU item we use)

A favorite
I have homeschooled all five or my sons, and I personally believe that using the same grammar program year after year can be tedious. Therefore, I switch between three of my favorites every three years, and Easy Grammar has been on that list from the beginning. I highly recommend that you consider this program for a year during the late middle-school or high school years.

I found out about GP on a homeschool video summit that included Rainbow Resource. I took my notes and did some research.
My student was only grasping minimal grammar. He was about to start high school and that means crunch time. I bought GP as a last resort, and I'm so glad I did.
I bought the workbook and the big teacher book that has one page of answers, and the next page of the student book. (copy pages?) I like having both so we can go over it together when he isn't comprehending something. I see the answers and his page while he can keep his workbook.
Personally, I can't tell you what is different about this book and how it works when others didn't. All that matters is that it is working and even better, it's now becoming fun.

It Really Is Easy Grammar
We have used Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and Plus. A couple of times I switched to a different curriculum because I thought maybe it was too easy, but discovered the others don't explain well and are too difficult. We have always gone back to this and really like it.

We had tried several grammar programs for my middle/junior high school-aged children and were not completely happy with any of them until we found Easy Grammar The no-nonsense no-frills approach beginning with preposition elimination along with pages of repetition (practice)of each rule helped the whole concept of grammar finally make sense to my children Easy Grammar is a must-have on any homeschool shelf--either as part of main curriculum or as supplement We have used it both ways and have been very happy with the results each time!

I have used this program with all of my childrenEasy Grammar works for gifted students dyslexic students "average" students and completely-ambivalent-toward-the- grammar-of-my-native-language studentsWe follow completion of Easy Grammar Plus with The Stewart English Program There is absolutely no way my dyslexic child could have completed Stewart without the strong foundation he got in Easy GrammarI realize that it isn't all about the test but when you're trying to get a homeschooled student into college it's all about the test So far perfect scores on the language arts sections of the ACT They attribute it to the English program I "force" them to do My dyslexic son came home from the test and said "Thank you so much for making me do that Easy Grammar Plus book 3 times" I should quantify that - repetition works for him Now about complaints about Easy Grammar It is exactly what it says it is - a grammar program To round out an English curriculum you will still need spelling/vocabulary (usually a separate subject anyway) a literature component (often a separate subject) and a writing component Easy Grammar does not teach writing beyond emphasis on the proper grammar and punctuation of a sentence We've tried Easy Writing and found it not at all helpful Easy Grammar did such an adequate job teaching my children how sentences should be structured that a sentence study was a waste of time For our purposes we have found the Spectrum Writing series the Igniting Your Writing Series and Jensen Format Writing to be excellent companions for Easy Grammar Spectrum and Igniting used in an interwoven fashion followed by JensenWhy do we follow Easy Grammar with The Stewart English Program? Easy Grammar maintains the same format throughout each book which is wonderful in helping solidify concepts and relate to earlier learning but there is only the lowest level of analysis happening in Easy Grammar There is absolutely no evaluation or creation Stewart raises the bar on analysis by using more complex sentence structures moves into evaluation by requiring the student to find examples in literature and then prove their assertion about the selections and finally to create both simple (high school reading level) and complex (college reading level) examples of the grammatical skill being covered Please keep in mind that many freshman and sophomore college texts are not written on a college level but most non-general studies texts are Meaning that students who test out of freshman level studies will need exposure to higher level reading; and grammar is an excellent reading comprehension booster This makes Stewart a great college prep course but you have to be ready for that first Stewart does not provide a foundation in grammar assuming the student already has this skill which Easy Grammar provides
